The Mack Awards was conceived in 1983 by the then NHSA secretary Don Reed as a means to bring sign companies together to annually show off their best work.

Dedicated to Charlie Magliozzi, a giant in the New England sign industry. Charlie "Mack" of Mack Signs, was instrumental in the founding of the NHSA in 1976. The first Mack Awards was held at the Highway Hotel in Concord, NH in the fall of 1983.
